Overview
Annotations record when each scanner is actually open or closed, and let you flag events and reserved blocks. You can view and edit them directly on the Calendar, and manage them in full on the Annotations page (Explore > Annotations).
Access and permissions
Editing annotations requires the manage_operating_hours permission. Without it, you can view annotations but you cannot change them.

Operating (regular) hours | The scanner’s normal operating hours | Hours open per day |
Exceptions | Override regular hours for specific dates or periods (holidays, maintenance, extended hours) | Open or closed |
Events | Flag things on the timeline | Overlay — doesn’t change open/closed hours |
Reserved blocks | Reserve scanner time under a named, colored block | Overlay — doesn’t change open/closed hours |
Adding and editing on the Calendar
You can create and edit annotations directly on the Calendar — there’s no separate edit mode. For the ways to do it (click and drag, gap hover, or the Add annotations button), see Adding annotations to the Calendar.
